United We Act
The Putnam Theatre Alliance is a collaboration among a trio of Putnam County’s leading arts organizations: Arts on the Lake, the Philipstown Depot Theatre, and Tompkins Corners Cultural Center. Our mission: Work together to deliver daring theatre to the Hudson Valley and present the region as a hub for the development of top-quality productions.
The Alliance is currently producing Dirt, which began as three one-act plays focusing on three historical figures to unearth themes of power, injustice, and ownership—forces that shaped this region’s growth and continue to define it today. Those three pieces, now stitched together, have evolved into Dirt, written by Vickie Ramirez, Nan-Lynn Nelson, and Kate Moira Ryan and directed by Alice Jankell. The play focuses on Wappinger Chief Daniel Nimham; Mary Philipse Morris, a member of the area’s ruling family; and Caesar, an enslaved miller who worked on the Philipses’ manor. Dirt will be staged at all three venues this March. Tickets for the Depot performances are available here. Tickets are also on sale for performances at Arts on the Lake and Tompkins Corners.
The Putnam Theatre Alliance launched in 2021 with The Freedom Project, a series of filmed readings.
